Factor

The Factor screen displays all the factors used in the system. Factors are used in the Pay Code Equation to determine employee pay. Common uses of factors include calculation of overtime, calculation of shift differential pay (for evening and night shifts), or calculation of weekend differential.

For example a night shift differential pay code may use the formula of Hours x (Rate + Factor). The system would add the applicable factor to the employee pay rate and then multiply the sum by the number of hours worked.

The Target field determines which screen a factor can be assigned to. Within that screen, a specific record can be opened and a factor amount assigned. For example, if the Target is set to Job Class, in the Job Class screen, any record can be opened and a factor can be assigned to that specific job class. When the system is processing, it will use the factor assigned to the job class of the employee being processed. If there is not a value entered in the specific record, the system uses the default amount set up in the Factor Indicator Calculations Standard Rate 1 field on the Parameters tab.
